The use of networks by medical schemes are becoming increasingly prevalent as it allows them to channel volumes into the network in return for lower tariffs. Whilst networks have historically mainly been restricted to hospitals, doctor networks are growing as a means of controlling other costs associated with hospitalisation.

Spotlight on Medical Malpractice – News24

Medical malpractice is in the spotlight as we follow the appeal of obstetrician Dr Danie van der Walt, who was recently sentenced in Mpumalanga to five years in jail for the death of a patient as a result of complications during labour. This is thought to be the first instance of a doctor being sentenced to direct imprisonment for negligence.
