COVID-19 Updated Visiting Hours

Lenmed has tightened its COVID-19 precautionary measures following the Honourable President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of a lockdown to ensure the safety of our patients, employees, doctors and community.

We have been complying with restriction guidelines as we’ve progressed through the various levels of lockdown since the initial announcement.

In strict accordance with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and National Department of Health Protocols, Lenmed has implemented the necessary measures along with our usual standards to manage any suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients to prevent any potential transmission in our facilities.

All departments and operations are fully functional, and our teams are prepared to treat you and your loved ones safely. We have beds dedicated for non-COVID-19 patients and all infection prevention processes and protocols have been implemented to prepare units and theatres for green (non-COVID-19) admissions. We still apply strict access control and screening on entering at all our facilities.

The COVID-19 pandemic remains fluid. Lenmed is vigilant and will continue to assess the situation and adapt our processes and protocols as required to constantly maintain our high safety standards. As we are able to experience a decrease in rate of infections, we will relieve visitation restrictions in our facilities.

Visitation to non-COVID-19 patients is currently restricted at several of our hospitals until further notice.

Please note that visitation must be arranged with the hospital’s management beforehand as we’re dealing with a dynamic situation and the safety of patients, employees and the community remains our priority.

Please note that visitation to the following hospitals has been suspended until further notice:

  • Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre
  • Shifa Private Hospital
  • La Verna Private Hospital
  • Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital
  • Daxina Private Hospital
  • Randfontein Private Hospital
  • Zamokuhle Private Hospital

Exceptions will be made for the following:

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Only one parent at a time permitted to visit a child, subject to strict screening criteria being met.

Paediatric Units: Only one parent permitted to stay in with child, subject to strict screening criteria being met.

Critically Ill Patients: By arrangement and with permission of the hospital manager, subject to strict screening criteria being met.

Please note that you will be able to stay in contact with your loved ones through our Virtual Visitation.

Visitation to Bokamoso Private Hospital remains restricted until further notice.

Exceptions will be made for the following:

Paediatrics: only one parent permitted to stay, subject to a negative screening

ICU: only 2 visitors permitted, subject to a negative screening

Please note that birthing partners or visitation to the maternity units will not be permitted.

Please be assured of our best intentions and that:

  • Lenmed hospitals are fully operational
  • Prepared to safely treat all medical and surgical conditions
  • Vigilant, all safety protocols are in place

Patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms such as shortness of breath are requested to call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department to arrange for an assessment and/or possible admission. All other patients, including those with mild symptoms or those seeking testing are requested to contact their GPs for advice.
