Dr Nithendra Manickchund is a Specialist in Internal Medicine with a Masters in Infectious Diseases based at Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre. Prior to starting his practice, he was based at King Edward VIII Hospital (KEH) and the Department of Infectious Diseases University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN).

Here he had managed and run the Infectious Diseases service for 8 years. These years provided invaluable experience in improving his approach to patients as a specialist physician working in South Africa. Dr Manickchund completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Cape Town and followed by his specialist training, his Masters and Infectious diseases training at UKZN. A part of his training incorporated six months of lab exposure at Inkosi Albert Luthuli departments of Microbiology and Virology and a month of lab training at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in Gauteng.

At KEH, he chaired the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee for 8 years. He also spearheaded the hospital’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and ran the COVID-19 ICU and high care during the waves of the pandemic. Dr Manickchund’s strengths include the management of complicated medical conditions where his analytical approach and innovative strategies have proven to be lifesaving and highly efficient in-patient care. He applies best medical practices whilst maintaining excellent communication with patients, their families and collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
