After undergraduate (BA) (Hons) and postgraduate (MA) degrees in the Arts, Dr Patel embarked on a career in medicine, completing undergraduate (MBBCh) and postgraduate (FC Paed Surg, MMed) training at the University of the Witwatersrand. Upon completion of community service, Dr Patel spent a period working for Doctors Without Borders in Somaliland, before returning to South Africa and embarking on a career in general surgery, subsequently specialising in paediatric surgery.

Trained at the world-renowned and busiest centres in Africa (Chris Hani Baragwanath and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospitals), Dr Patel has gained wide experience in paediatric surgery. Dr Patel maintains an academic background serving as a consultant paediatric surgeon at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand. Dr Patel’s training, experience and commitment to his patients create an environment for the highest standards of care for all children at Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital.
