Bio
Dr Owen Dreyer graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Stellenbosch University in 2003 before completing his internship at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha. He then worked in the Eastern Cape before returning to the Western Cape, where he gained valuable experience at regional and district hospitals. In 2008, Dr Dreyer commenced his specialist training in paediatrics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), qualifying as a paediatrician in 2012. During his training, he gained extensive experience across both rural and tertiary healthcare settings, managing a wide range of paediatric conditions in diverse clinical environments.
In 2013, Dr Dreyer began private practice in Kimberley, where he worked alongside experienced paediatricians including Drs Berlyn, Van Niekerk, Starr and Peens. He later spent two years in Cape Town, where he completed training in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in paediatric practice before returning to Kathu in 2026. Dr Dreyer is passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based care for children. He remains committed to lifelong learning, continually expanding his knowledge and collaborating with colleagues across multiple specialties to achieve the best possible outcomes for every child entrusted to his care
