Mr Kleinloog started the transplantation unit in KwaZulu-Natal in 1997 which has done 200 transplant procedures to date.
He is the recipient of a Paul Harris medal and served as president of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of South Africa for 23 years and president of the World Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons.
