Bio

Dr Patrick Lufuta Kande has worked in internal medicine for more than 20 years in hospitals across Southern Africa. He was born in Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo and finished his medical studies there in 2001. In 2024, he completed further specialist training in internal medicine in South Africa. He is also qualified in HIV care.
Dr Kande has held important leadership roles in several hospitals, where he helped improve patient care, supported medical teams, and introduced programs for treating diseases like MDR-TB. He has worked at both district and major teaching hospitals, including Pelonomi and Universitas hospitals in Bloemfontein.
He is especially interested in kidney diseases and critical care. Dr Kande speaks English, French, Zulu, and Sotho and is involved in research on HIV and Tuberculosis. He is well-known for his dedication to good patient care, teaching others, and ongoing learning.
