October 2020: Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital launches advanced life support rapid response vehicle

The vehicle is equipped with the latest life-saving equipment and will be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The launch of the vehicle brings with it the much-needed introduction of advanced life support paramedics to Lenasia and surrounds.

The emergency response vehicle will enhance the sophisticated trauma, stroke and cardiac capabilities of Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital. The level 1 rated trauma programme is led by well-renowned Trauma Surgeon, Dr Mogabe and is supported by our accident and emergency Medicine team, ER Consulting Inc. The hospital has a highly accredited Stroke programme aligned with the international Angels Initiative supported by Boehringer-Ingelheim and the cardiac unit is equipped with a state of the art Catherisation Laboratory supported by our resident cardiology specialists.

In addition to offering urgent care to our communities, the response vehicle will support local community ambulatory services, with whom the hospital works closely, Pulsate and Saaberie Chishty and our general practitioners.

The vehicle will be crewed by four paramedics working rotational shifts, aided by the hospital’s experienced nurses and doctors. The team will assist with patient transfers and cross-border repatriations from our sister hospitals in Botswana and Mozambique.
