November 2023 – In recent months, Lenmed Shifa Private Hospital undertook the task of refurbishing its paediatric, maternity and surgical wards. The project was undertaken with the intent to transform the hospital’s existing wards into modern, state-of-the-art facilities that will exceed the expectations of patients and medical professionals.

The renovations have been done with the aim of improving the overall patient experience and providing high-quality care in a comfortable and safe environment. The upgrades have covered several aspects of the wards, including the upgrading of bathrooms, improving patient comfort, enhancing the overall ambience of the wards, and creating a more efficient and streamlined environment for staff. As patient experience is a top priority for all Lenmed hospitals, the overall vision for these upgrades is for the hospital – which was recently honoured as the best hospital in the Overport region in the Rising Sun Readers’ Choice Awards – to provide patients with a home away from home experience.

“We understand that the hospital experience can be stressful and overwhelming, and our goal is to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible during their stay with us,” said the Hospital Manager, Abdool Amod. “The refurbishment project was an important investment in our patient’s well-being, and we are confident that the improvements will have a significant positive impact on their experience.”

With Lenmed’s mission being to create healthy and prosperous communities, employees are also at the heart of the activities taking place. This renovation project also sought to create an appealing and modern work environment for staff to help motivate them to provide high-quality care to patients.

The refurbishment project was carried out in two phases, starting with the paediatric section, maternity and neonatal intensive care unit (which are now complete). Currently, renovations are taking place in the surgical wards. Patients and members of the community have been urged to be cognisant of some increased noise levels as well as restricted/reduced access. However, patient care has not been disrupted to ensure that the hospital provides uninterrupted and quality service throughout.
